Yaro Shon Neils is a multidisciplinary artist who looks to personal experience in an effort to unravel complex cultural mythologies. She was born in her grandmother's cabin in northern Arizona and raised in an agricultural community located in the heart of urban south Phoenix. Favoring idea over medium, her work takes the form of historic and contemporary photographic processes, time-based media, artist's books, performance, installation, and the written word. Yaro Shon holds degrees in Photography and French from Arizona State University and an MFA from the University of Montana School of Art. She left a position as Photography Lecturer at Eastern Washington University to globe-trot with her family on diplomatic missions before settling down in Eugene, Oregon with her spouse, two children, and several furry family members. |
